Sent to Pet Experts March 19, 2006 4:13 p.m.

how can I contol barking? I keep getting turned in for barking? I have 4 dogs, I don't feel it's my dogs that are barking or it's the neibors dogs that will get mine started. My dogs are kenneled up alot and don't get out much . That's why I don't feel it's my doogs that are out of control. but I'm being blamed. I feel I'm being targeted. Each of my dogs have a bark coller on and a bark controler in there room that they are kenneled in. I don't what more I can do other than de-bark them!

I was going to say if you do not feel it is your dog's barking that would be a way to prove it is not them if you feel you are being targeted. If they have bark collars on and a bark controller in the room they are in then it very well may not be them. There is really nothing that you can do to control their barking unless you want to consider having a trainer come out to your house to work with them since you do have four dogs and it would help to have the trainer work with them in their home environment where the problem is occuring. But if you honestly feel it is not your dogs I would consider trying to prove that before having them de-barked or putting out more money. Most dogs if they hear other dogs barking are likely to bark as well so the other dogs may be setting your dogs off on a barking spree. Some dogs bark due to anxiety, some bark due to a territorial issue and some bark due to a situation like yours which is reactive barking. If you do not feel that the collars you have are effective in stopping their barking I would consider a trainer before I would consider anything else.

Video cameras have video and sound so you would need to video your dogs when they are not barking but barking could still be heard in the background as one back-up that it is not your dog's barking. I would video tape that and send a copy to animal control and also when other dogs in the area are barking maybe that is when you need to call them as well so they can come out and see it is not your dogs. I would still recommend that you check into local trainers in your area and see if one could come out as this would be easier and less expensive then taking all for in and to help with this type of situation it is better to have them in the environment you need them not to bark in. When you are not at home for now if possible I would keep them inside so they cannot come out and blame your dogs for doing the barking until you can get this under control and them not start legal action against you as I know if it were me and I knew it was not my dogs, I would not be thinking of having them de-barked I would try my best to prove them wrong and this is what I feel you should do as well.

Thank you for your help. I will look into a trainer. My problem is that I'm kinda unempolyed so money is a big problem. I do keep them in    98 0/0 if the time. It's to bad they can't enjoy there own back yard.If I had the money I would put up a privicy fence. I feel that would help, that way they the (dogs) wouldn't be able to see out side of the yard.

Yes I do agree, and it is a shame but I know you love your dogs and do not want or can afford any legal action against you. I would call around to see about pricing in your area as it would be a wise and great investment to allow them to enjoy the outdoors more. I would definately not leave them out at all when you are gone as if it is not your dogs then there will continue to be barking problems and they can get to the real answer to their question. If your bark collars seem effective the trainer would be your best bet before anything else especially de-barking them in any way with surgery. And besides the collars it is really hard without training in alot of cases that can stop the behavior especially with you having four altogether. If their barking seems to be stress related there are calming medications that can be given but they would only be a help if this was the case but if their overall health and behavior is good and this is more reactive barking then you would not want to medicate your dogs. I wish you the best and let me know if I can be of any further help.

I never leave my dogs out when I leave. They are always kenneled up. each one has there own kennel and the lab has a whole bedroom to him self with the others in there kennels in the same room. He's so good that all I have is a baby gate across the doorway and he stays in the room. It wouldn't take much for him to jump it. (has)
What would I be looking for in a trainer? What questions do I need to ask? What kind of price's would I be looking at?   I have even gone to the point of letting them out and I stand in the kic and watch them thou the window, that's why I know it's not them. They don't know I'm watching then. and some of the time all they are doing is laying around the yard. They like to be out.
