I just got home to a mess all over the floor that involved my two dogs shredding up a bag of flour and most alarming a tub of Oxiclean (approximately 1/3 of a tub) which was spilled all over the floor! I am concerned about whether or not they may have ingested it and what the cosequences could be (poisened?). I read on the Oxiclean bottle that we shouldn't induce vomiting but that it shouldn't be ingested by animals and that the animal should drink lots of water if it was ingested. Their hotline is closed due to the fact that it is Sunday night so I don't have any other info from Oxiclean reps. I don't believe that the dogs ingested that much because the amount that we cleaned up off the floor is comparable to the amount that was in the tub to begin with but I did notice that one of the dogs had some white stuff in his lips and slightly up his nose so I think he may have ingested some. They aren't acting very unusual right now other than drinking alot of water. We obviously cleaned up the floors as much as possible and gave them both a bath so as to clean off their coats and paws. Can you help me look for signs or poisening or should I just call the poisen hotline for dogs that costs $45 per case asap?

I would go ahead and call the poison control hotline just in case. Or you can just call your regular vet and ask for his opinion. In all likelyhood, the amount they inhaled will do little or no damage at all. It doesn't sound like they ate any of it.

Let me know if you still have questions.

What specific symptoms should I look for to indicate that the dogs may have been poisened?

Drooling

Vomiting

Diarrhea

Increased respirations

Swelling of the face

Labored breathing

I doubt that you are going to see any symptoms from the little bit that was around their mouths.

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: I already tried calling my vet and just got a recording that if it was an emergency to call the local emergency vet's office in which case I would have to pay $45 (which I was trying to avoid unless absolutely necessary)...I then found this website and felt the the cost was more reasonable...

Can you please tell me what specific symptoms a dog would exhibit if poisened? Like I said, they both appear to be acting normal but I would feel much more confident in handling this situation if I knew what to look for in their behavior. Then if I see them exhibiting these Poisening types of symptoms I wouldn't hesitate to call no matter what the price! ;)

Reply to Tammy Falkner's Post: Any possible ingestion of the oxiclean would have been anywhere from 2-5 hours ago...if the dog was in harm of poisening wouldn't these symptoms have shown up by now?

Yes Tammy...I got the list of symptoms thanks! Did you see my last question re: the fact that they may have ingested the oxiclean anywhere from 2-5 hours ago so if the dogs were in harm of poisening wouldn't these symptoms have shown up by now?

Ok thanks for your time...I am going to look at the ingredients of the oxiclean a little more closely and see if I can research whether or not it has a toxin of that sort. You've been very helpful! Have a good night!
