knot on nect

i have a really important question about my pup. she is a pit bull mix she was born with a possible problem. but about a month ago she developed a knot on/in her thoart it started off small but now i can cup my hand around it. now the question is what could it be and would be better of humane to just put here to sleep. by the way she is barely 5 months. please help...
