(Not a Pet Question?)

Urinating all over the place and in the litter box.
Sent to Pet Experts May 28 09:01 AM

My cat is a year old. I've had her for 7 months, and 3 months of that time she has been in a new apt. w/me. At 9 months I had her spayed & declawed. Just yesterday she urinated in three different rooms in places she hasn't marked before. She also uses her litter box. She's well taken care of. I don't understand why she is doing this. Is she mad? Do I need to take a sample of her urine to the vet? Will this ever STOP?! Should I put her down? Please help.

Two thoughts, first a medical reason. Could be urinary tract or bladder infection. Take her to your Veterinarian to check this out.
Second behavioral, some times smells in the carpet, especially apartments where other animals could have lived, could cause your cat to urinate over the old scent. There are a number of products on the market to clean and deodorize the spots. I would also make sure the litter box is lage enough, and clean enough. Some cats are finicky and if the litter box has been used, they won't use it while it still has urine or feces in it. You might also try setting another litter box in another room so your cat has a choice.
There are a number of questions I have about this situation, Why would you think she is mad at you? Do you have other pets or just got a new pet? Have you been leaving her home alone a lot lately?

The rug that she urinated on yesterday is always on the landing by the front door which she lays on all the time. I moved it to clean, and within 10 min later she peed on it. The litter box is large enough, and I clean the feces out of it every day, however, I did just switch the litter. I went from clay to crystals, but she used the new litter right away. No room for another litter box, but I like that idea. I think she is mad because I have been traveling a lot in the past two months, and this past week was the first time I've been home consecutively. I have a roommate, but Sage is the only pet we have.

Greetings:

I am a little concerned as to why you would think about putting your kitty down - It's very possible that your kitty is a little traumatized by all that has happened. My cats reacted that way for a couple of months - due to the 1994 earthquake as we were displaced, then we moved around alot until we finally got situated. Your kitty is quite young. My cats eventually stopped - spending time with your kitty as much as you possibly can might help - it did with mine...but certainly, each cat is different. If this gets to be a bit too much for you, perhaps consulting with a vet would put your mind at ease.

My very best to you and your kitty.

Please take care.

Bright Blessings.

I don't want to put her down, however my vet said that is usually what owners do when they can't get thier pets to stop urinating everywhere. Maybe I didn't stress enough how often this happens. It's very frustrating to me and my roomate. She's always done this, but always with a break in between episodes. I love her very much and only want the best for her. How much time is enough? I work from 7AM-5PM M-F. I do notice that she seams more content during the weekends. She has quite a personality, but also very moody. lol
