Advice for Holly

Sent to Pet Experts July 09, 2005 8:18 p.m.

Ihave a 15yr. old schitz-shu. Always in good health, up to date on shots etc...In the past three years, she has had 3 seizures...popped right back..within 5 minutes. Never foamed at the mouth, until today. Had siezure and right after could not stand on back legs...kept pulling to the right(she has done that before, but would bounce back) Today, she foamed at the mouth about 15 minutes after the siezure. Took her to an Animal Hospital(my vet. does not work or answer the phone on weekends) They have observed her and said it appeares that she has something going on in the brain(right side) because she is pulling to the right and because she
can not stand up.They think she has a tumor. Give her 50/50 chance to make it. They kept her in hospital with I.V. for the night. I went in to see her before I came home and she knew who I was and tried her best to get up. Please give a little advice. I told thewm not to give her the (sorry about spelling) phenbarbitol, unless they call me.just valium, if she goes into another seizure. They will be calling through the night for updates...

It's hard to tell what's going on but I can tell you that you have done all that you can do in getting her to the vet.

At this age, there are a lot of things that can go wrong, tumors being one of them.

The risks are also high that the dog can suffer brain damage as the result of a prolonged seizure.

If you have specific questions about what's going on, please let me know. I'll tell you all that I can.

And I am very sorry for what you are going through.
